Wall of Peace - Astana's New Landmark

Astana has gained a new architectural landmark — the "Wall of Peace". This gift to the capital for its anniversary was presented by Aktobe Region. The installation was unveiled by the President of Kazakhstan on August 29, 2018, the International Day against Nuclear Tests, according to a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center.

The project is based on the idea of the country's president's anti-nuclear manifesto "Peace. XXI Century". The gift from the people of Aktobe was constructed on Independence Square, near the "Kazakh Eli" monument.

"Exactly 27 years ago, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was closed by presidential decree, marking the beginning of the country's process of renouncing one of the world's largest nuclear arsenals. According to the architects' concept, the wall, which creates barriers, transforms into a unifying and protective roof in the shape of a petal, thereby protecting and uniting peoples, gathering them into a single circle symbolizing the traditional Turkic Kurultai," noted the press service of Aktobe Region.
